A year on… and plenty of progress

It has been a little over a year since the management buy-out of the UK operations of Fort Dearborn Company and its re-branding to Springfield Solutions. The new business has come a long way since then.

“We set ourselves some very ambitious targets”, said Albert Dass, Chairman of the Board. “Springfield Solutions had a great foundation to build upon but we felt that it needed a new strategic focus to take it forward. The decision to concentrate our development efforts to become an unsurpassed solution provider has proven to be an excellent choice. Our focus is for high-impact packaging decoration via the synergising of our pre-press and colour management skills with a combination of conventional and digital print capacity”

“We have hit some impressive milestones along the way”, says Ian Lemon, Managing Director. ”A more structured, process-driven approach was needed to achieve our performance and quality goals. The work we have put in has been recognised, not only by the feedback that we receive from our clients but also by ISO with our recent ISO 9001:2000 certification and ROSPA’s Occupational Safety Award. An aggressive expansion of our printing capacity was started this year. The installation of our second HP Indigo digital press, the WS4500, follows the acquisition of highly-specified finishing capital from ABG. We are now ready to accelerate our business development plans no only within our existing markets but also to introduce new markets and print applications into our portfolio”

Innovation has always been a cornerstone for Springfield Solutions Ltd. For over 20 years the company has been setting the standard in colour management in the Paint & Coatings packaging industry with tools such as HiColour™ and now DECOCAN™. Although well acknowledged for its leadership in this marketplace, outside of the Paint & Coatings market little or nothing is known of Springfield Solutions. “We have been test marketing this year into new markets and applications” says Mike Englander, Head of Business Development. ”The results have been very encouraging. We see that the solutions we offer have importance to clients in a wide range of spheres. We have the experience now to tackle complex problems for our clients in order to change supply chains costs, improve packaging quality and reduce time to market. What we did not know was whether we were only a niche market player or if the methods we employ would work in the same way with others. The answer is a resounding YES. With the expansion of our print capacity, 2007 will be the year for moving forward and showing the wider markets the best kept secret, Springfield Solutions Ltd.”
